| World OT Day and AIOTA's OTIndia Month 2019|| |
The All India Occupational Therapists' Association (AIOTA) celebrated the World OT Day during AIOTA's OTIndia month (27th October to 26th November) in Mumbai on 9th November 2019. The highlights of the celebrations were pre-event press release for about 1 week in print and electronic media in the commonly spoken local languages: English, Hindi and Marathi. Then on 9th November, a walkathon with the theme 'Improving World Health and Well-being' was organized in collaboration with Seth G. S. Medical College and K. E. M Hospital, Mumbai, Mumbai Branch of the AIOTA and Occupational Therapy (OT) colleges of Mumbai and Navi Mumbai and AIIPM and R and Tata Cancer Hospital, Mumbai. About 3-km walk with participation of about 500 members, AIOTA and ACOT EC officials and executive members, IJOT editorial board members, faculties, clinical OTs and enthusiastic students, was superbly organized. The highlight of the superbly organized walkathon was display of banners of the AIOTA's state branches for its projection as national event of occupational therapists (OTs) in India. Dr. Hemant Deshmukh, Dean, Seth G. S. Medical College, Mumbai and Dr. Anil K. Srivastava, President, AIOTA flagged off the rally. Members of all state branches of AIOTA also marked their presence with branch banners. This was followed by Street Plays performed by enthusiastic students from all participating OT colleges at different locations to bring about awareness of OT roles and services. Later in the afternoon a press conference was organized at the Press Club of India, Mumbai. The event had a wide coverage on print and electronic media. President, AIOTA in his address to press highlighted multifaceted professional issues like need for a Central Council, mandatory Inclusion of OT in key program and policies of Government of India like the National Health Policy, Rural Health program, Clinical Establishment Act, National Education Policy for ensuring the rights of persons with dysfunctions and disabilities in getting served by this profession.
The month-long awareness drive throughout the country included various other activities such as seminars, panel discussions, poster presentation, awareness presentations, awareness rallies, street plays, camps and much more. Almost all states/cities in India through institutions, hospitals, rehabilitation centers and state branches, organized awareness program during OT India month.

Dr. Kamal Narayan Arya, Lecturer (Occupational Therapy), Pt. Deendayal Upadhyaya National Institute for Persons with Physical Disabilities, New Delhi, has recently been granted a research project, funded by Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), New Delhi. The title of the project is 'Neural-plasticity based Sensory-Rehabilitation Protocol in Post-Stroke Hemiparesis'.
The duration of the project is 3 years with a provision of a Project Technical Officer (Occupational Therapist).

- First time an Indian OT from India had the opportunity to be part of the Indian team and make a presentation inside the Executive Board Room of WHO Headquarters, Geneva, Switzerland. Dr. Shovan was invited at 'Global Report on Effective Access to Assistive Technology' consultation on 22nd and 23rd August 2019, organized by WHO with about 200 members from more than 50 countries.

The foreword written by Justice Cyriac Joseph informs that the book is comprehensive and deals with various aspects of sexual abuse of children, are in simple and clear language. He appreciated the commendable efforts of authors to provide information on proper legal education and awareness among stakeholders.
| Dr Shashi Oberai Included in Development Group for People With Ischemic Heart Disease Project of WHO|| |
Dr. Shashi Oberai on recommendation of the AIOTA, is selected by WHO, to participate on the 'Development Group for People with Ischemic Heart Disease', as a representative of the World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT). She will be provided with a WFOT certificate of appreciation upon notification of the completion of the work on the Development Group.

Dr. Jayashri S. Kale, Professor and Head, OT School, Seth G. S. Medical College, Mumbai was invited as subject expert on occupational therapy in healthcare live program telecasted on DD Sahyadri on 16th July, 2018, also for live program telecasted on DD Sahyadri on Hemophilia awareness and role of OT in April, 2019. Further in March, 2018, DD Sahyadri invited her for an interview on Scientific Approach in Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation.
Dr. Shilpshree P. Palsule, Assistant Professor, Seth G. S. Medical College, Mumbai was also invited for a live program on DD Sahyadri: Hello Doctor: telecasted on 18th January, 2019 as subject expert for occupational therapy in musculoskeletal conditions.
An article on occupational therapy was published in Samna local edition in Marathi on Preventive Role of Occupational Therapy in Prevention of Heart Disease in Lokmat, Marathi newspaper. An article also appeared in Loksatta, on OT intervention in management of Arthritis. She was also a panelist and resource person for Dr. Aruna Tole Oration on Cognitive Rehabilitation in Mumbai.
