Database of Allied and Health Professionals | |  |
Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), Government of India, intended to collect a database of health professionals for the launch of HpR Database to the general public. The database was to be inaugurated by the Honorable Health Minister on June 15, 2022. Allied and Health Profession Associations were requested to submit information about their respective organizations and the extent of available database with them before the deadline. A meeting was convened on June 6 with all allied and healthcare organizations at Nirman Bhavan, New Delhi, for this specific purpose. The All India Occupational Therapists' Association (AIOTA) representation led by the President AIOTA, Dr. Anil Kumar Srivastava, accompanied by Dean ACOT Dr. Jyothika N. Bijlani and EC Member Dr. Raj Kumar Sharma attended the meeting. Our team informed that about 50 occupational therapy colleges exist in the country imparting education up to PhD and that no Diploma programs are available anywhere in the country. It was also brought to the notice of authorities of the Ministry that about 35,000 occupational therapists have graduated in India since 1952. Many of the occupational therapists have migrated overseas for higher education and lucrative work opportunities. Currently, AIOTA on record possesses database of about 6000 occupational therapists. We promised to reach all educational centers to gather database of all professionals across the country. However, we submitted database of available about 2500 members before the deadline, i.e., on June 15, 2022, which was appreciated by the Ministry. This meeting was conducted under the chairpersonship of Additional Secretaries of MoHFW Shri S. Gopalakrishnan and Dr. Manohar Agnani.
Interim Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions | |  |
Moving a step ahead toward setting up the already enacted National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions Bill 2021, an Interim Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions with nominations from all stakeholders has been set up by the MoHFW, Government of India. The members of the AIOTA from National Institutes Dr. Anurupa Senapati, National Institute of Rehabilitation Training and Research, Cuttack, and Dr. Smita Jayvant, All India Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Mumbai, are recently nominated as members. Dr. Lalit Narayan from Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya National Institute for Persons with Physical Disabilities (Divyangjan), Delhi, is also nominated as Special Invitee Member.
World Federation of Occupational Therapists Membership Certificate to Individual Members | |  |
In a welcome move, AIOTA's agenda item pending decision since the World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT) Council Meeting of 2008 for the issuance of membership certificate to individual members of WFOT is approved. President AIOTA is informed by Executive Director WFOT Ritchard Ledgard that this Agenda Item has now been accepted in principle by the WFOT Executive Management Team. However, the final decision to this effect will be taken at WFOT Council Meeting 2022 in Paris. This Agenda item was re-sent to WFOT for decision in the 35th Council Meeting 2022.
Other Agenda Items sent from India are: The WFOT Definition of Occupational Therapy should be revised by incorporating the “First Contact and/or Referral Practice” and WFOT should consider “Accreditation of Master in Occupational Therapy Education” available in member organizations.
All India Occupational Therapists' Association Representation in the 35th World Federation of Occupational Therapists Council Meeting and Congress | |  |
The 35th WFOT Council Meeting is likely to be attended by the WFOT Delegate and one of the Alternate Delegates. After 2008, India remained unrepresented in WFOT Council Meetings. The 35th WFOT Council Meeting will take place from August 23 to 26, 2022, and the 18th WFOT Congress is scheduled from August 28 to 31, 2022, in Paris, France.
Advanced Certification Course in Neuro-Modulation with Neuro-Rehabilitation | |  |
The AIOTA has recently signed an agreement initially for 3 years with PRS Neurosciences for organizing “Advanced Certification Course in Neuro-modulation with Neuro-rehabilitation for Occupational Therapist” which will be jointly organized by PRS Neurosciences and Mechatronic Research Institute, Bengaluru, and All India Occupational Therapists' Association.
Issue 2 of the Journal always carries Abstracts of the papers presented in the AIOTA National Conferences. This issue contains Abstracts of the research studies presented in AIOTA's 59th Annual National Conference held on a virtual platform due to the pandemic. It also is enriched with one review article and also two original studies by eminent authors.
